Bunk Haus Lodging and RV Park in Canyon Lake, TX

January 31 – February 7

Bunk Haus is a funky little place off of Farm to Market Rd 306 in Canyon Lake, TX. It is about an hour west of San Marcos and an hour North of San Antonio.  There are grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations and a car wash. We stayed one week so we could visit Canyon Lake, the state parks in the area and down to San Antonio to check out an extra fuel tank for Blanca.  So if you haven’t heard by now, Rosie wasn’t doing so hot, so we traded her in for Blanca.  (see the Almost Heaven Post for a pic) Blanca is an automatic truck with a short bed and had just about 60 miles on her.  Towing the 5th wheel here I come!  We broke Blanca in with 1000 miles driving from Houston (purchased there), Katy (camping world*), Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, Galveston (Beaches) and back to Almost Heaven RV park. Normally we wouldn’t drive a vehicle just to drive a vehicle, but we had to get her ready for towing. She towed beautifully up and down the hill country of Texas near San Marcos.

*The Camping World in Katy, Tx probably installed the hitch incorrectly and did not tighten a support in the wheel well.  Just our opinion, but we probably won’t patronize the place again.

The website speaks for itself, however the rates seemed to change when I called to make a reservation and the office hours are only until 1:00 pm.  You pay for full hookups, ranging in price for 30 amps to 50 amps and electricity is extra.  The woman in the office said it is around $5.00 a day. That’s a lot of electricity.  Its a good thing we are conservative and the solar panels will help.  We only use 30 kwh per day, generally.  We ended up paying $11.00 for the extra electricity.

Just for fun! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkM1ZdFEiRE

You will need a code for the bath haus and the main bath haus is closed for the season. You must use the upper bath haus in the club haus.

coin operated laundry facility

fairly level sites including pull thrus and back ins

This place is a little out of the way, but on a busy road (FM 306). It was however, in a good location to see several state parks in the area and get to San Antonio.  Unfortunately, access to Canyon Lake is limited in the winter.

The pet friendliness is so/so.  The park is right off of FM 306 and no hiking trails to speak off that lead from the park.  We can see Canyon Lake and we are about 6 miles from the Guadalupe River. There are two pet walk areas on site. Be careful there are goat heads!

Overall this park is so/s0. The price seemed to be right on the website, but in actuality the price was all wrong.   For future parks, it is important that we ask if the price is all-inclusive.
